Fasting for fun and Saving The Future of the world!

Written by The Kid on March 20, 2008

Hey boys and girl =) it’s that time of year again, i’m trying to save the future of the world and in the process fasting. How’s this you say? Well i’m glad you asked. My significant other (i’ll give you a hint, my gf) works for the leading non profit in Canada as part of dating this lovely girl i get to NOT eat every year for 30 hours yay!

Although Timothy Ferriss recently wrote two great posts that fasting can actually make you live longer, i encourage you to read them!

The thing is though it goes to an extremely good cause, I’m sure most people have heard of World Vision if you have not here are some statistics.
World Vision
What is World Vision

  • World Vision was founded in 1950 by Dr. Bob Pierce
  • World Vision Famine events like the 30 Hour Famine and 40 Hour Famine also help to raise money for impoverished countries. Typically, a group signs up to organize such an event, and then spends the next 30 or 40 hours abstaining from food, technology (are you crazy ;) ) or other things that are taken for granted and increasing awareness about world hunger.
  • According to World Vision’s annual report, in 2005, 87% of its funding was spent on programs, 8% on fund raising and 5% on management and general overhead.
  • World Vision has responded to famine in Ethiopia and North Korea, hurricanes in Central America, the tsunami in the Indian Ocean nations, earthquakes in El Salvador, India, Taiwan and Turkey, and war refugees in Kosovo, Chechnya, Sierra Leone, Angola, and East Timor.

World Vision is one of the most well run charities in the world so it makes me happy that i know by far the vast majority of every dollar raised goes to the actual people in need.

What i need from you!

I would love for you to support me, that can be in many forms either telling others about this or donating yourself, all money is done through the world vision website which uses the same encryption as a bank, remember when donating you will only receive a tax receipt on donations over $20.

That doesn’t mean you don’t donate if your not going to donate $20 or more, every dollar raised helps a child in a third world country or even at home, i encourage you to donate even if it is only $1.

I will be updating the blog on that day so you can get a constant update watching me having fun not eating.

So now you know and there is no reason not to donate so please go do it!

The 30 hour famine is on

Thank you so much

-Greg!
