The Lessons of 2007

Written by The Kid on January 7, 2008

I’ve learned a lot this last year, i have made many mistakes and i’ve had a few victories along the way too.

Things that i have learned, and will be improving.

1) Keep your eye on the ball - On the internet it is easy to automate your business which is a godsend, but like everything in life there is always two sides to a coin. The very thing that helped me automate my business is the same thing that hurt my business, i took my eye off my number which is a horrible mistake and cost me a lot of money. People always find it easy to say well that is obvious just don’t do that, but these people have not run a business that is completely automated. It is very tempting to not look at your number since they have stayed consistent for months.

2) Follow Through - This blog is where i have an opportunity to share some of my ideas and other people ideas i find on the web. I have a weakness though, I’m great at learning how to do something and i’m great at starting a project but the follow through is where I’m lacking. As you may have noticed i have started many projects on this blog, some have been from A to Z others have been from A to C. This is something i will be changing in 2008 and i recommend you do the same. Now don’t get me wrong sometimes i will be waiting on someone else which is out of my control but i will from now on wait from a project to be done in all aspects before i even start it.

3) Staying Organized - Organization is the key to a successful organization (haha i had to do it)
This ties in perfectly to the first two points, without organization it’s very hard to keep your eye on the ball and to follow through. I’m waiting on a program from Culture Code they have a very very interesting GTD (Getting Thins Done) software program called Things, I can’t wait for it. In the mean time i’m using the online solution from The Basecamp people. Speaking of Basecamp i signed up for a free account and have been testing it out with a couple of other bloggers on some up coming projects, another tool to keep organized.

4) Power of the network - I wrote about this in my post Stop being a weirdo and go meet someone  so i wont go in to too much deal but if you do not have a network start building one today.  Who else can you turn to when you need help or have a question.

These are some of the lessons i have learned, what about you? What did you learn this year?

    5) Fix Feedburner feed title - Just trying to be helpful.

To be more on topic, organization is one of the things that kills me as well. I’ll definitely be checking out some of the solutions you mentioned. Thanks.
